 note = {論文(Article), Abstract : This paper deals with the problem of universality and cultural variation in metaphor.  I will discuss this problem focusing on dog-related metaphorical expressions found in English and Japanese.  The dog metaphor plays an important role in making sense of people, objects and events in both English-speaking and Japanese cultures.  It is true English shares several dog-related metaphorical meanings with Japanese, but there are also some semantic differences in the dog-related metaphorical expressions in the two languages.
