 note = {論文(Article), Abstract : This paper examines whether the definitions of the common noun 'HANGAKU' in the Japanese language dictionaries are appropriate.  The Chinese characters for HANGAKU are 坂額' when we use the word as a proper noun that refers to a historic personage, and they are 板額 when we use it as a common noun.  It is inappropriate to say that this word as a common noun refers to stout ugly women and has a sneering connotation.  The word has a more objective meaning which does not contain any affective connotation.  It means a woman who does not flinch from difficulties and acts positively in a dignified manner.
